On the 3rd October, we started to film the sample scene for our film. This was to last one minute. We decided to film the part in our film where the girl returns home from dropping her mother to the pub and there is a power cut. We already knew our basic camera shots from our storyboard, yet, once we began filming, we realised that there were many more shots we would need to include and each scene would take a lot of time to film as we have to focus our attention on what the final product will look like once edited. Our shots for this scene included close-ups, establishing shots, over-the-shoulder shots and many more.
Throughout this period of time we were experimenting with sound on GarageBand and continuing to edit our sample scene.
The whole idea for filming a sample scene was to check that our story line could work and to practice using the camera. We would also practice editing our sample scene with sound and transitions.
Here is our completed sample scene:
We are particularly pleased with this scene as we feel that the music adds suspense and triggers emotion, what music is conventionally supposed to do in horror films.
However, we realised that, as our film is to be filmed when it is dark, some shots were difficult to see, so we need to focus more attention on lighting when filming our final film.
