Representation

Today we focused on the idea of representation.  We learnt a way to remember the different types of representation within film: 'CAGEDS'
(Class Age Gender Ethnicity Disability Sexuality)
We then watched a short film from the BBC Film Network called 'About A Girl' and focused on film in relation to the types of representation.  The main ones in 'About A Girl,' I feel, are age, class and gender.
We also focused on analysing the technical language throughout.  For example, camera, sound and props etc.  I analysed these in relation to each representation.  For example, the way the girl dresses and talks signifies what class she is from as she sounds quite 'common'.
I have learnt that representation is important in films as sometimes it tries to tell a 'story' in relation to the target audience.  For example, if the film is focusing on an upper class family, it may be trying to target an upper class family or have morals to do with this.

Here are some notes that I have written in relation to representation in 'About A Girl'
